PRIMARY FUNCTION
We are searching for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and dedicated Occupational Health and Safety Advisor to help small business and entrepreneurs build safer and healthier workplaces in British Columbia. This role will be responsible for driving partnership with WorkSafe BC, liaising with them to create and deliver educational content. This role will also provide advisory services to SBBC clients while assisting in navigating compliance with BC’s Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulations.
JOB DUTIES & TASKS
· Acts as a liaison between SBBC and WorkSafe BC for all projects within the organization, acts as an expert in WorkSafe services and resources.
· Participates in the Talk To an Expert series, assist clients and employers to understand, work and comply with WorkSafeBC regulations and health and safety matters.
· Acts as an advisor and assist clients in navigating the safety regulations governing their business activities, supports the development of OHS policies, and communicates safety obligations for employers and workers.
· Provides customized gap analyses consultations for clients’ health and safety structure to identify areas for improvement, creates a plan to implement such improvements.
· Participates in Start Smart series as an OHS expert
· Develops and facilitates workshops/webinars including but not limited to OHS topics and regulation, WorkSafe insurance, workplace injuries, worker accommodations, claims management (including reviews and appeals process), safe return to work and disability management.
· In collaboration with Education team and WorkSafeBC, leads the development of creative and engaging WorkSafe digital and on-demand education sessions and podcasts.
· Monitors success and performance of WorkSafeBC educational or information sessions.
· Liaises with industry partners, including but not limited to WorkSafeBC, to inform, navigate and increase access to resources.
· Builds and maintains a library of OHS resources for small businesses.
· Attends conferences, webinars and seminars to maintain a good knowledge of current practices.
· Performs compliance and metrics reporting, including but not limited to quarterly and annual reporting for the WorkSafeBC partnership.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety in British Columbia and minimum 2 years of health and safety management or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation an asset.
· Demonstrated knowledge of occupational health and safety principles, practices and requirements (Workers Compensation Act and WorkSafe BC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation).
· Knowledge of WorkSafe BC insurance and claims processes.
· Knowledge of the principles of accident prevention, investigation and inspection procedures.
· Experience in developing and delivering presentations, orientation, awareness, or training sessions to groups of various sizes.
· Experience in conducting workplace health and safety investigations and inspections.
· Demonstrated technical knowledge of a wide variety of workplace hazards and control methods.
· Strong computer skills in MS Suite, G-Suite, Outlook and Asana.
· Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team and independently as well.
· Excellent public speaking, interpersonal, written, verbal and presentation skills.
· Motivated self-starter, willing to take initiative, with proven problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
· Familiarity with non-profit sector and knowledge of basic legal principles of business considered an asset.
· Strong customer service acumen and affinity for researching and finding the correct information to provide to clients.
· Ability to work in French is considered an asset, as well as additional languages (Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese or Farsi)
