Temporary position, Flexible hours
(Part- or Full-time, depending on candidate availability)

Mulgrave is one of Canada’s leading independent co-educational pre-K – 12 day schools, serving the North Shore of Vancouver. We are an established IB Continuum World School with a reputation for excellence and innovation. We are now seeking applicants for the role(s) of French and/or Spanish Language Assistant to start in August 2022. Please include a cover letter written in French or Spanish with your application.

Mulgrave School inspires students to achieve their personal best by providing a rich and engaging programme that develops students’ skills, promotes curiosity and love of learning, and prioritises well-being. All students follow the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) in Grades 6-10, and most students pursue the IB Diploma Programme (DP) in Grades 11 & 12. Teaching and learning are enriched by opportunities for exploration in the arts, athletics, outdoor education, service, leadership, and more.

Mulgrave is a fast-paced and highly collaborative professional environment, where innovation is encouraged and student learning and well-being drive everything we do. A low student-teacher ratio and a stimulating, well-resourced, technology-rich environment make this an exceptional place to work. Faculty benefit from 2.5 hours per week of collaborative planning time built into the schedule, allowing subject teams to work closely together to ensure that every student is appropriately challenged, feels safe and seen, and knows that they belong at Mulgrave.

In order to provide the best possible learning environment for our highly diverse, multicultural student population, Mulgrave actively seeks to recruit staff from groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in independent and international schools. BIPoC and 2SLGBTQ+ people and those with disabilities are warmly encouraged to apply, and invited to reach out for more information about our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.

Position Summary: *

*
We are currently seeking to hire two part-time language assistants OR a full-time language assistant who can support learning in both languages.* The schedule and hours are flexible.

Mulgrave places great importance on language learning, and offers a variety of language learning options. In addition to Mandarin, which is offered at every grade level, French is offered as an option starting in Kindergarten, and Spanish is introduced starting in Grade 10. Teaching and learning are enhanced by the work of Language Assistants, who work closely with classroom teachers to further students’ progress by providing conversational practice and other support to students, during lessons as well as individually and in small groups.

While a teaching background is not a requirement for this role, the successful candidate(s) will have experience with young people and a good understanding of how to develop positive relationships with students ages 11-18. This is an excellent opportunity for people considering a career in language education, who wish to gain practical experience and be part of a dynamic language acquisition programme in a leading international school.
