St. George’s School is seeking an experienced and energized Latin teacher to join the Languages department at the Senior School on a full-time basis. This role requires an innovative teaching professional to support a collaborative learning environment using engaging and meaningful pedagogy focused on student learning and growth.
Faculty are required to support the school’s co-curricular program for two of three terms. The co-curricular program includes recreational athletics, competitive athletics, and academic clubs and is offered a minimum of two times per week per term.

Responsibilities will include:
Bringing in a diversity of voices and worldviews to classroom material and learning experiences, including Indigenous, local, and global perspectives.
Demonstrates commitment to incorporating real-world connections and problem solving into teaching and learning.
Collaborating with colleagues to align planning, instruction, and assessment across sections of a course, or to similar standards within the department.
Utilize outcomes-based assessment and instruction as well as strong formative and summative assessment strategies.
Incorporating Core Competencies regularly into lessons, assessments, and feedback.
Building a strong rapport with students and supporting the students in bringing out their best, both in and out of the classroom.
Regular communication to students, parents, and other stakeholders about student needs and growth, including but not limited to IEP meetings, formal report cards, and parent teacher-student conferences.
Collaborate with other members of faculty within the department and across other departments to foster and sustain learning communities in the classroom and in the school.
Using a variety of pedagogical approaches & lesson design.
Make relevant and innovative use of multiple technologies in the classroom, including using Canvas as a student learning platform and Gradebook for reporting.
Participating actively in professional development opportunities and training programs.
Models the school’s core competencies which include: humility, integrity, respect, resilience, empathy and responsibility.
Lead a small group of students in-school Advisory program, providing leadership and mentorship in social-emotional learning. This includes weekly Advisory sessions and scheduled Flex Days.
Contributing to the life and functioning of the school, through regular supervision duty, timely reading and responding to communication, and supporting school initiatives and events.
Qualifications will include:
Valid BC Teaching Certificate, or is eligible to qualify for one.
Post-secondary degree in the area of Languages with an emphasis on Latin. A postgraduate degree would be an asset.
Ability to teach Spanish 8-10, Mandarin 9-12 and/or an inquiry-based World Languages 8 course is considered an asset.
Knowledge of subject matter, curriculum and ability to refine and develop independent curriculum for Grade 8-11, and teach Advanced Placement Latin 12 (College Board curriculum).
Experience teaching in a secondary (8-12) setting.
Passionate about bringing the Latin language to life.
Experience with curriculum design, design thinking, inquiry-based teaching.
Current on pedagogical trends through continued reading and relevant recent professional development.
Effective classroom management strategies.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills, with a particular emphasis on collaborative planning and assessment.
Excellent skills in knowledge of curriculum, teaching and learning, specifically when planning educational strategies for language learning.
Strongly committed to student learning and success; being able to understand the needs of students while engaging them as active learners in the classroom.
Experience working in a fast-paced learning environment.
Superior EQ skills in self-awareness, self-management, social agility, impact and influence.
