Position Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated Mining Engineer who will work closely with senior management and technical services teams in the planning, coordination, and execution of tasks related to the exploration, permitting, development, and transition of projects to production. The Mining Engineer will also participate in the planning, designing, organizing and supervision in the development of mines, mine facilities, systems and equipment; and prepare and supervise the extraction of metallic or non-metallic minerals and ores from underground or surface mines. In addition, the Mining Engineer will also participate in the analysis, evaluation, and presentation of current and potential future projects.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Reviews data, technical reports and mining factors of existing operations and new projects being evaluated for potential acquisition, and perform site visits as required
- Conduct field studies and onsite due diligence at remote project sites and collaborate with mining engineers to present mining strategies and resolve operation issues
- Prepare technical reports and review corporate presentation and/or related materials and updates as required
- Communicate and liaise with Beijing and other overseas offices on projects and operations
- Work with external consulting firms to conduct research and due diligence, collect operations data, and prepare technical reports
- Research the permitting process for various regions and assist in the creation of plans
- Support the preparation of various reports and requirements needed for the permitting process
- Assist with the project management of the permitting process by helping organize, facilitate, track, and record project meetings
- Conduct preliminary surveys and studies of ore, mineral or coal deposits to assess the economic and environmental feasibility of potential mining operations
- Determine the appropriate means of safely and efficiently mining deposits
- Assist with the design of shafts, ventilation systems, mine services, haulage systems and supporting structures
- Design, develop and implement computer applications such as for mine design, mine modelling, mapping or for monitoring mine conditions
- Plan and design or select mining equipment and machinery and mineral treatment machinery and equipment in collaboration with other engineering specialists
- Plan, organize and supervise the development of mines and mine structures and the operation and maintenance of mines
- Prepare operations and project estimates, schedules and reports
- Implement and coordinate mine safety programs
- Supervise and coordinate the work of technicians, technologists, survey personnel, and other engineers and scientists.
- Conduct market research and technical evaluation and analysis for potential new projects
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Undergraduate education in Mining Engineering, or similar field
- Knowledge of NI43-101 standards
- Knowledge of various studies required for permitting including but not limited to metallurgy, environmental impact, social baseline and impact, archeology and others
- Minimum five years of experience in mine design for precious metals and operations management
- Hold Professional Engineer license and Registered with EGBC (or eligible for registration) or working towards the designation
- Strong technical skills with good business acumen
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to accuracy, detail, and deadline and result driven
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with previous mentoring experience
- Willingness to travel and spend time in the different fields and sites with strong commitment to safety principles
- Ability to work with different cultures across different time zones
- Strong capabilities with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook and related software packages, i.e. Surpac/Micromine etc.
- Fluent in Mandarin and experience working in China
