Collingwood Neighbourhood House (CNH) is a not-for-profit Society serving the Renfrew-Collingwood (RC) neighbourhood of East Vancouver. CNH’s mandate is to promote the well-being of the Renfrew-Collingwood community by providing leadership and working collaboratively with individuals, families, agencies and other groups to develop and support inclusive, innovative, sustainable initiatives and services that respond to the community’s social, educational, economic, health, cultural and recreational needs.
The goal of the Renfrew-Collingwood Better at Home Program is to support seniors in Renfrew-Collingwood to live independently in their homes and stay connected to their communities by providing non-medical support services.
Job Overview
The light housekeeping and companionship program provide affordable, regularly scheduled cleaning services to seniors in the Renfrew-Collingwood community and offers a friendly visit with each appointment to socially isolated clients to increase connection and offset the adverse effects of loneliness. This service is intended to maintain the home, and as such no deep cleaning is required. It also does not include meal preparation, or personal or medical care. We are looking for a casual, on-call housekeeper/friendly visitor who speaks fluent English and Cantonese to help fill the growing demand for light housekeeping and social connections.
Skills & Qualifications
· Good communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
· Patience and care for seniors’ needs
· Experience with general housecleaning
· Ability to use digital devices to update calendar and fill out timesheets
· Speaks English and Cantonese fluently. Mandarin or other additional languages would be an asset.
· Excellent time management skills
· Proper work documents if the housekeeper is not a permanent resident or citizen such as an open work permit
· Valid BC driver’s licence and access to a vehicle would be an asset
· The successful applicant will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check (CRC). Note that a previous conviction(s) not related to this position will not exclude applicants.
· Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
Responsibilities
1. Communication – The housekeeper is expected to:
a. Communicate with seniors, their family members, and the Housekeeping Program Manager in a respectful and timely manner always
b. Communicate with the senior and/or family members to schedule service appointments for a mutually agreed time and dates
c. Continually update their digital calendar to document appointments. Ability to use digital devices is required
d. Communicate any changes to the client’s well-being or living situation to the Housekeeping Program Manager in a timely manner
e. Contact the Housekeeping Program Manager as soon as possible for any issues, disagreements, or problems
2. Health and wellbeing:
a. The housekeeper will conduct a self-screening for Covid-19 or any other illness such as cold or flu prior to entering a client’s home.
b. The housekeeper will wear a mask when in the client’s home when appropriate and practice diligent hand hygiene
c. The housekeeper will follow emergent CNH policies as they relate to Covid-19 which are based on provincial recommendations
d. The housekeeper will adhere to CNH’s health and safety policies including ergonomic best practices
3. Social Visiting – enjoy getting to know your clients by spending time with them over a cup of coffee and sharing a treat. A friendly face and caring ear can do wonders for fostering a sense of connection among those facing social isolation due to limited mobility or a host of other factors.
4. Housekeeping
a. The Light Housekeeping Service is strictly a (no assistance with personal care tasks, i.e., help with washing hair, dressing, etc.).
b. The specific tasks may vary from home to home
Job Details
· Salary: $21.02/hour with progression + stat and vacation pay
· Schedule: Casual – On call
· Expected Start date: November 2024
· Location:Must have reliable transportation to client’s homes, public transportation is acceptable
· This is a unionized position covered by a Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 1936
