Villa Cathay is undergoing capital redevelopment to become a modernized care environment. Upon completion, VCCH will increase the care capacity by 50%. JOB SUMMARY:
Practices in accordance with the standards, scope and code of ethics as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP) for a Licensed Practical Nurse as well as within a client and family centred care model and the vision, values and policies of the organization. Working independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team performs full scope of practical nursing functions as outlined by BCCNP for clients with predictable outcomes within a designated area of specialty. This includes activities such as assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting client care, and providing support to clients and their families. Maintains and advances clinical competence pursuant to the standards of practice of BCCNP for clients within an complex care environment.
Qualifications:
Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses.
One year recent related experience in gerontological nursing or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Recent, related experience promoting client independence and/or supporting practice of life skills
Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate and First Aid.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes:
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Ability to communicate with residents and family in their preferred dialect/language an asset.
Ability to deal with others effectively
Physical ability to carry out duties of the position
Ability to prioritize and organize work according to residents’ care needs and goals of the organization
Ability to operate related equipment
Basic computer skill and word processing program
Demonstration of good work ethics and respectful work place behaviors
Ability to speak Chinese is an asset
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
