About Us:
VanOutdoors Society provides unique experiential education opportunities to Chinese Canadians. We aim to inspire our market to learn about and explore B.C.’s beautiful wilderness while teaching conservation and environmental stewardship. VanOutdoors has recently launched its full-time operations and is seeking qualified individuals to join our operations team.
Overview:
The Program instructor will report to the project manager or educational program manager and will be responsible for leading and co-leading youth programs. The successful candidate will be kept on an “on-call” list for Sunday programs and Winter ski programs. The Program instructor will be expected to deliver program material with a high level of enthusiasm and a degree of flexibility as new programs are introduced and may be asked for feedback on new programs. The Program instructor will provide post-trip reports when necessary.
This position does require a certain degree of flexibility in scheduling as there is potential for evening, weekend, and overnight work opportunities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Working directly with students, parents, and supervisors to lead day and (multi-)overnight programs.
Prepare necessary equipment for programs and events.
Take notes of participant growth during programs and generate Experiential Education report cards as requested by supervisor.
Communicate program requirements as they arise with the Project Manager and Educational Program Manager in an effective and timely manner.
Give feedback to supervisors and program developers based on experience in the field.
Occasionally participate in the creation of marketing materials.
Certifications:
Vanoutdoors is looking to add a skilled member to our team who has experience working with children in outdoor environments. Preference will be given to candidates who have
A valid first aid certificate (40+ hour, or 80 hour preferred),
CSIA or CASI level 1
experience or certifications in leading/instructing outdoor adventure sports, such as rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, paddle boarding, orienteering, etc.
Any candidate with the above mentioned qualifications and also possesses a class 4 unrestricted driver’s license or equivalent will be given priority scheduling for a character interview.

Have a valid class 4 (un)restricted B.C. Driver’s License or equivalent
Can use Instagram and WeChat
Have experience working with companies such as NOLS, COLT, Outward Bound, or Where There Be Dragons
Speak Mandarin or experience living in China
Hours:
This role will vary between full and part-time hours as programs require.
Reporting Relationship:
Program instructors will report directly to the Project Manager and/or Educational Program Manager.
Contract length: 4 months
Part-time hours: 8-40 per week

Salary: $18.00-$22.00 per hour
