Responsibilities
Position Purpose Summary:
The purpose of the Ministry Assistant position is to assist the Corps Officer/Pastor in the oversight of the pastoral ministry of Richmond Community Church’s congregational ministries.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in providing leadership in the congregational ministry of the Richmond Community Church, providing pastoral care within the congregation and all its programs and outreach, to individuals and families, showing an interest in their overall wellbeing.
Assist non-believers in coming to know Jesus Christ and helping them in their spiritual growth through personal follow up, discipleship programs and incorporating them into the church family.
Participate as a member of the Pastoral Care Council and Mission Board, working alongside the leadership team to move the church toward its stated mission and strategic plan.
Assist the Corps Officer/Pastor by providing leadership in the organizing and conducting of worship services, preaching, teaching, bible study, fellowship meetings and outreach activities, in person and remotely.
Help recruit and train volunteer helpers and leaders to assist in the implementation of church programs and outreach activities.
Assist with the administrative duties of the Corps Officer, including emails, preparing for worship services/programs, power point, as well as annual reviews, strategic planning, meeting preparation.
Assist in the general fund-raising efforts of the church, and special or seasonal programs including Summer Camps, Christmas Kettle Campaign, and Christmas programming.
Along with the Corps Officer, be a positive representative of The Salvation Army with the community at ministerial or ecumenical activities.
Perform other related duties and work on assigned projects in consultation with the Corps Officers and/or Mission Board.
Qualifications
Education/Certifications:
Must have completed a post-secondary degree or theological training related to the position.
Experience:
Must have 1-3 years of relevant ministry experience in a Christian church setting.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
Has a strong, mature, personal Christian commitment and able to lead and teach from the Bible and the doctrines of The Salvation Army.
Able to communicate effectively in spoken and written Chinese.
Have a strong understanding of the diversity of Chinese culture, and able to help newcomers understand Canadian culture.
Able to communicate effectively in spoken and written English,
Possess strong people skills, compassionate and patient; have a good understanding of issues new Chinese/other immigrants to Canada face, who come from diverse social and economic backgrounds.
Possess public speaking ability and able to preach, give talks on spiritual topics, teach the Bible.
Demonstrate leadership qualities and management skills in the running of programs and leading groups of people towards achieving stated objectives.
Consent to a background check, including professional and personal references.
Submit to a Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP) and have a clear vulnerable sector screening.
Must agree to allow The Salvation Army to conduct a search of all Child Abuse Registries in Canada.
Possession of a class 5 license and provide a clean driver abstract.
Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
