Katal Innovations Inc. dba Progression Airbags (PAB) is a small business with our home office based in Vancouver, BC. We are looking for a CAD designer to join our team to support the growth of our company. This individual will work directly with our Lead Designer to develop detailed design packages for manufacturing airbags used for freestyle ski/snowboard training as well as other custom inflatable products for the action sports industry. This is an intermediate level role for a self-motivated engineer, technician or drafter who is familiar with using SolidWorks, has a minimum of 1 year experience in the inflatables industry designing inflatable PVC structures and possesses strong communication skills.

The position is part-time, there are no guaranteed hours and workload will vary depending on the amount of work available. The ideal candidate will have a lot of flexibility.

Position Scope

Reporting to the Lead Designer, you will be creating SolidWorks CAD models of all inflatable airbag products to communicate with manufacturing facilities in China and material supplier globally. You will also be involved with installation of our products and providing operations training seminars to our clients.

Responsibilities:

• Developing all CAD models for all airbag products using SolidWorks;
• Performing on-site installation on ski hills and installation training seminars for clients;
• Performing quality control on products during and after manufacturing;
• Preparing detailed manufacturing drawing package to be issued for Production;
• Delivering complete manufacturing instructions, detailing the Bill of Materials for each product;
• Organizing and maintaining a shared file system of all CAD models and drawing packages and updating all CAD models;
• Prepare and update all product/equipment Operations Manuals, providing design drawings and equipment layout details for installation as required by the PAB Operations team;

Qualifications and Experience:

Education: BASc in Mechanical Engineering (ability to register as an EIT with EGBC), Technical Diploma with a focus on CAD design, or similar combination of training and experience.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of applicable, technical work as a SolidWorks designer and an absolute minimum of 1 year experience doing inflatable design.

• Thorough familiarity and experience working with SolidWorks CAD software. Experience using AutoCAD or other CAD software would be desirable but not required.
• Experience in the inflatables industry, designing inflatables PVC structures such as inflatable airbags for the action sports, industry bouncy castles, inflatable slide, obstacle courses etc.
• Experience with quality control of inflatables, and performing on-site installation and installation training seminars for clients.
• Has the ability to travel anywhere in the world;
• Competency with spoken and written English language.
• Competency with Cantonese or Mandarin languages would be an asset, but not necessary.
• Excellent visualization and problem-solving skills.

In addition to technical skills, the right fit will:

• Possess competent skiing or snowboarding ability, with a keen passion for freestyle.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience with technical reports and product specifications.
• Have either Permanent Resident status or Canadian Citizenship.
