Full Job Description
We are seeking two counsellors: a Farsi-English Bilingual Counsellor and a Chinese-English Bilingual Counsellor starting in August 2022.
Bodwell High School, a private boarding school founded in 1991 and located on the waterfront of North Vancouver, offers grades 8-12 to students from over 40 countries (www.bodwell.edu). Our High School has a unique, comprehensive, and boarding program with a small homestay program, that fosters the growth of active learners and well-rounded citizens who contribute positively to the world. We are looking for a Farsi-English and a Chinese-English bilingual school Counsellors to join a team of nine multi-lingual counsellors. The position will become available as soon as the right candidate is found.
The primary duties are to:
– provide academic guidance and university application assistance
– offer social and emotional guidance mainly for international students – act as an intermediary between the school and parents
– Support, use and update student data base as needed
– collaborate with teachers, boarding advisors, coaches, and administrators
The successful candidate must:
– be fluent in English and Farsi or Chinese in both verbal and written form
– possess a degree in social work, education, counselling psychology, educational counselling, ESL, or other relevant disciplines
– be able to work professionally, independently, and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
– illustrate values such as kindness, empathy, and honesty
– have a passion for working with youth and exhibit excellent communication skills
– be comfortable with Microsoft programs and social media applications.
It would be an asset if the candidate:
– have travelled or lived in Iran, China, Taiwan, or HK and is familiar with the education and social-cultural context of those countries
– can assist with post-secondary guidance and admissions
– is familiar with the BC K-12 system
– has had experience working with high school students, or other youth services.
