JOB OVERVIEW
The Associate Media Director is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of media strategy, planning, tactical execution, implementation, optimization and performance analysis for client accounts. You’ll work hand-in-hand with clients and become part of a team that inspires integrated media planning across various departments and channels. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in driving the success of our media campaigns and establishing strong relationships internally with the team and externally with clients and vendors. RESPONSIBILITIES
Team & People Management
– Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to the media team
– Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless coordination and effective communication
– Conduct regular performance reviews, offering feedback and identifying opportunities for improvement
– Resolve team and cross-functional team conflicts and escalate issues as necessary
Strategic Planning & Execution
– Lead the media team in all projects and campaigns
– Understand client expectations and liaise with clients to ensure satisfaction
– Conduct research and analysis to identify and improve advertising strategies
– Develop comprehensive media plans and strategies in collaboration with account managers
– Define media objectives, budgets, and timelines
– Oversee the creation and presentation of client-facing media plans and proposals
– Manage the implementation of media campaigns, including media buying, ad trafficking, and creative submissions
– Monitor campaign performance and make data-driven optimizations as needed
– Prepare and deliver comprehensive media reports and presentations to clients and stakeholders
– Stay informed about the latest media trends, technologies, and industry developments
Vendor Management
– Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with media vendors and partners
– Attend vendor meetings and negotiate pricing, placements, and contracts
– Collaborate with vendors to explore innovative media placements and formats
– Ensure timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices and payments
Process Management & Administration
– Streamline media planning and execution processes, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions
– Maintain organized records of media data, inventory, and contracts
– Stay up to date on new media opportunities, tools, and technologies
– Collaborate with leadership to evaluate and implement software/tools to enhance media processes and capabilities
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for the Associate Media Director position is a strategic thinker with a strong background in media planning and management. You have a deep understanding of market research, target audiences, and media-specific terminology. Your excellent communication and decision-making skills enable you to effectively collaborate with internal teams, clients, and vendors. Additionally, you are highly organized, detail-oriented, and results-driven.
Education & Experience
– Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or a relevant field
– Minimum of 5 years of experience in media planning or a similar role, preferably in an advertising agency setting
– Proven track record of developing and executing successful media campaigns
– Media experience from BC/lower mainland
– Strong knowledge of the traditional media landscape in BC
– Strong knowledge of digital marketing platforms (e.g., Google Ads, Facebook Ads, Programmatic Ads)
– Proficiency in analytics tools and campaign evaluation metrics
– Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets for reporting and analysis
– Familiarity with remote work tools and ability to adapt to new systems quickly (e.g., project management tools, communication platforms)
– Proven ability to manage multiple client contacts and stakeholders
– Strong analytical skills with an excellent numerical aptitude to derive insights from various reporting channels, while also managing media budgets and assisting the finance and accounts team with invoicing and cash flow
Soft Skills
– Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
– Strong problem-solving capabilities, with an orientation to details. Ability to resolve problems at both the strategic and execution levels.
– Keen attention to detail while simultaneously assimilating large quantities of information often under tight deadlines
– Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative environment with effective project management skills
– Willingness to “pitch in” with various ad hoc projects to support the larger planning team
