T&T Supermarket Inc. was founded in 1993 with two stores in BC. Since then, it has expanded rapidly to become Canada’s largest Asian supermarket chain with 29 stores across the country: 13 in Metro Vancouver, 6 in Alberta, and 10 in Ontario (8 in GTA and 1 in Ottawa, 1 in Waterloo).
The Role
Reporting to the Pastry Chef, the Baker (Bread, Cake &/or other Pastries) is responsible for supporting the Pastry Chef in providing guidance, supervision and sets as a good example for Bakery Production Assistants to follow
Major Responsibilities
- Draw up production schedule to determine type and quantity of goods to produce
- Plan and prepare ingredients and dough for bread, cakes, rolls, mousse, puddings, sweet goods, batters and icings and frostings according to standard operating procedures or special customer orders
- Control product (Bread, Cake &/or other Pastries)quality, inventory level and wastage according to theestablished standards
- Oversee the mixing of flour, dough, cake mix andother baking ingredients; supervise the bakingproduction processes
- Provide guidance and supervision to the Bakery
- Production team, ensure fair distribution of work and ensure proper scheduling is done
- Provide training to Bakery Production Assistants and provide feedback on staff performance
- Participate in new product research and development process, encourage innovations
- Order and replenish inventory as and when required Responsible for the cleanliness, hygiene, equipment and tools maintenance follow up and workplace safety of the production area
- Assist to answer customers’ enquiries
- Lead by example by performing duties of BakeryProduction Assistants and Supervisor as required
- Provide support to the whole bakery team, demonstrate team work and foster good working relationships
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements
- Possess knowledge and 1-2 years of experience in making bakery products (Bread, Cake &/or other Pastries), including dough mixing, cake cutting and Decorating
- Working knowledge and experience in supervising bakery production workflow and controlling cost and wastage
- Ability to manage and train employees
- Have a good understanding of tools & equipment relevant to the job
- Possess knowledge in workplace health & safety and food safety (Food Safe Certification requires)
- Good communication skills, able to communicate in Chinese in an asset
- Accountable, pleasant and is able to take initiative
- Good organization, and problem-solving skills
- A good team player
- Flexible to work in various shifts, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, morning and evening hours
