Overview:
The Richmond Food Bank is a safe and confidential place for people with low incomes or in crises to receive grocery assistance, and provides a congenial volunteer environment for people of diverse backgrounds and abilities to contribute to their community.
Reporting to the General Manager, the Client and Volunteer Assistant’s primary area of responsibility will be to supervise clients and support volunteers. The successful candidate will also be prepared to learn and assist with other duties as needed.

Job Description:
- Greet clients and ensure a safe and welcoming environment
- Coordinate client intake and registration using the internal database
- Track client statistics and run reports
- Help donors, clients, and volunteers in a professional and positive manner
- Work with colleagues to place, schedule, support and supervise volunteers
- Assist with restocking and preparing the warehouse for distributions
- Assist at off-site depots as needed
- Assist with volunteer recognition and appreciation activities and events
- Assist with outreach activities, special events, and other tasks as needed
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Post-secondary degree or diploma
- 2 – 3 years of experience in client-serving, volunteer-powered or warehouse environment
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- First aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain one within 3 months of hiring
- Fluency in a second language (Mandarin or Cantonese) an asset
Skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with a wide variety of audiences
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and competency with MS Office
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people (clients, staff, volunteers, donors)
- Passion and support for community service and a desire to contribute to a positive, caring and supportive environment
Hours and Compensation:
Wage per hour is $22, normally for twenty hours per week from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm Monday through Thursday. Some evening and weekend work is required for special events and evening distributions. Potential for full-time work.
