South Vancouver Neighbourhood House (SVNH) is located on the unceded, occupied, ancestral and traditional homelands of

South Vancouver Neighbourhood House (SVNH) is seeking two Early Childhood Workers to implement summer
“Pop-Up” Family Drop-In Programs in the park to support young children and their families in South Vancouver.
The two Early Childhood Workers are responsible for designing “pop up” family drop-in programs at local parks in
South Vancouver from July to August. This will include planning, organizing, and facilitating the drop-in programs at
various parks, creating a friendly and welcoming environment at each of them. This free program is for children
aged 0-6 years and their parents/grandparents/caregivers, and will include free play, stories, songs, arts and crafts.
Occasional workshops and guest speakers are incorporated to ensure families have the knowledge and skills
necessary to give children the best start in life.
This position will report to the Manager of Family & Settlement Programs and works collaboratively with the
Family Team at SVNH.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Program planning and implementation that is age and developmentally appropriate, including circle time,
arts and crafts, games, motor skill development, school readiness, social and emotional skills development
- Role modeling appropriate educational support to parents and caregivers (i.e. how to help their child
prepare for school readiness & different developmental stages)
- Ensuring the physical and emotional safety of the children attending the family drop-in, including
behaviour and conflict management
- Setting up and cleaning up of the park space
- Establishing a good rapport with the parents
- Collecting weekly attendance and statistics; assisting with program evaluation
- Handling first aid emergencies and providing care
- Providing parents and caregivers with information and referrals to services and programs in the
neighbourhood; promoting South Vancouver Early Years’ programs and services
Skills and Qualifications:
- Post-secondary certification in Early Childhood Education or equivalent experience
- First aid training and certification

- Minimum 1-year experience working with families with young children
- ECEA license an asset
- Well -developed interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication
- Strong knowledge and awareness of developmental needs of children
- Knowledge of the broader child care field and its role in the community
- Fluency in a second language an asset (esp. Mandarin, Cantonese and/or Punjabi)
Salary:
$19.70/hour (Band C1, step 2)
This is a part-time temporary (14 hours/week) position, based at 6470 Victoria Drive. The position term is from July
4 to August 31, 2023. Available to work on Mondays to Saturdays.
