Duties and Responsibilities
Health and Safety
- Enforce health and safety policies by performing regular check-ins/audits at each plant.
- Coordinate with other departments in meeting company safety goals.
- Schedule monthly Occupational Health and Safety meetings and conduct and solve related issues.
- Maintain the health and safety boards across all plants and ensure that information and safety initiatives for employees are up to date.
- Ensure that all required certifications are collected and maintained on an annual basis (Forklift, First Aid, Joint Health & Safety Committee Member).
- Maintain and enhance current Covid-19 measures in place.
- Conduct detailed investigations, report and follow up on action items for every injury, accident or near miss incident
- Schedule and conduct annual fire drill, maintain Fire Safety Plan.
- Other health and safety duties and ad-hoc projects as assigned
Safety Training
- Develop and implement safety training programs specific to the pharmaceutical/food manufacturing industry.
- Update current safety training procedures with regards to operating machines and handling of tools.
- Conduct health and safety orientation when onboarding new employees.
- Complete annual health and safety refresher training and maintain a database of all health and safety training completed by employees.
- Advise leadership on potential safety risks/gaps that need to be addressed.
WorkSafe Claim Management and Worksafe Inspection
- Conduct and complete all the required documentations related to a workplace injury (EIIR, Form 7, Form 6, Corrective Actions, etc.).
- Follow-up on corrective actions and work with injured workers on their return to work plans.
- Coordinate with assigned WCB case managers, medical practitioners and employees in completing workplace assessments and develop suitable modified work duties.
- Work with WorkSafe BC officer for audits and inspections. Implement necessary improvements and write reports to respond to Wroksafe BC and close any outstanding orders.
First Aid
- Ensure that First Aid attendants are aware and trained on using all medical supplies on-hand.
- Coordinate with First Aid attendants to report any injuries on site and provide appropriate treatment, and maintain first aid records for workers who were attended to by first aid attendants
- Develop a quarterly schedule for First Aid Attendants in maintaining the First Aid Kits in designated rooms.
- Ensure all First Aid Attendants have their certifications up-to-date and maintain inventory levels of all first aid rooms.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Health and Safety; or HR specializing in Health and safety;
- Minimum of 1-2 years of related experience in Occupational Health and Safety;
- Health and Safety Experience in a pharma/food manufacturing, processes facility is preferred
- Must have a valid Occupational First Aid Level 2 (OFA 2) or able to renew the certificate within first month of work
- Demonstrated knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety legislation
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to clearly and accurately documentation
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work with staff and external parties in a professional manner;
- Solid computer skills (Microsoft Office)
- Must be able to deal with confidential matters appropriately;
- Valid BC Driver’s License is an asset
- Fluent in English and knowledge of Chinese is desirable
