POSITION OVERVIEW:

Instructor of JAPANESE

The Department of Language and Cultures at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) invites applications for a Part-time (50%) Regular faculty position starting Fall 2023. The successful applicant will teach at least four sections of various levels of Japanese language as well as optional Japanese culture courses (taught in English) per academic year, The Candidate should be committed to providing KPU students with an excellent undergraduate educational experience, as well as departmental and institutional service.

The Language and Cultures Department is the home to the BA Minor in Language and Culture at KPU and offers courses in Cree, French, Japanese, Mandarin, Punjabi, and Spanish language, in Linguistics, and in Language and Culture courses. We take great pride in our student-centered approach to learning, our emphasis on engagement and innovation, and our teaching-focused faculty.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The preferred qualifications for this position are a Ph.D. in Japanese or related subject areas, including coursework and/or research in the Japanese language and Japanese culture; a proven record of relevant teaching and scholarship; and native or near-native fluency in Japanese. However, candidates with a Master’s degree and comparable academic experience may be considered. Experience with the use of multimedia and information technology in the classroom, as well as ability to teach Japanese culture courses in English, will be considered an asset. The successful applicant will be asked to take teaching assignments in fall, spring, and May and June summer semesters. Classes are taught during the day and/or evening, in person at our Surrey and Richmond campuses or in the online/blended teaching modes.
