My partner who is 50 years old suffered a large ischemic stroke and is on the long road to recovery. I am his primary caregiver with the help of some family. His current level of functioning is improving everyday but we need support with his care as early as September 2022. He has aphasia and apraxia and therefore does not have comprehensive language at this time.
He needs support with transferring, personal care, outings and exercises etc. This person will assist him to become more independent in these areas. He also needs support with light housekeeping, cooking meals, laundry, errands, appointments. Must have a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record and be open to provide additional help as required.
We are looking for someone who is compassionate, patient, kind, flexible, honest, self directed and can take and follow directions. We are Inviting someone into our home that is calm, caring, poised and can help make light of a situation to help keep the energy up. A sense of humour combined with professionalism would be a great pairing.
We live in a beautiful apartment in the heart of downtown Vancouver facing the marina at Stanley Park. The apartment has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and the building has a gym and a sauna.
Hours of work, rate of pay, food and accommodations are negotiable.
Education and/or experience with post stroke, neuro or acquired brain injury or disabilities is an asset.
Languages: Must be fluent in English. Cantonese or Mandarin would be an asset but is not compulsory.
No smoking or drinking. References, background checks and resumes are mandatory.
