We currently have an opening for a casual Maintenance Assistant to join our team. The Maintenance Assistant plays a pivotal role in the maintenance department in keeping the building up to date and free of hazards.
As a Maintenance Assistant, you will use your critical thinking skills and knowledge to review building specifications, perform site inspections, and maintain our residents’ home along with the associated equipment with the facility. The Maintenance Assistant prides itself on maintaining a safe and beautiful environment for the residents to live and enjoy themselves.
Job Summary:
The job responsibilities of the Maintenance Assistant will include the maintenance as well as the upkeep of the building and other important associated equipment. Furthermore, you will be responsible for repairs related to plumbing, electrical, and any other building-related systems. You will perform daily, weekly, and quarterly preventative maintenance around the building as well as liaise with the relevant sub-trades to oversee building repairs. The Maintenance Assistant will conduct site inspections to identify mechanical failures or breakdowns. Lastly, the Maintenance Assistant will respond to residents’ requests for maintenance services such as but not limited to hanging pictures, mounting TVs to walls, and other general basic repairs. You will be a great fit for this role if you have great communication skills, a positive attitude, and a diploma from building science program, engineering program, or architectural technology program would be considered a great asset.
Qualifications:
Must have own basic tool kit.
Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check for vulnerable adults.
Education, Training and Experience
Grade 12 or equivalent plus 4 years recent related experience or a combination of education, training, and experience.
Thorough knowledge on electricity, plumbing, and building repairs.
Valid BC Driver’s license (Class 4 preferred)
Certificate on electrical, mechanical, pluming or construction preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes
Knowledge in safe practice in electrical, plumbing, and other building repairs.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to collaborate with others and to contribute to a team environment
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
Ability to organize and prioritize work according to the organizational goals
Ability to operate related equipment
Ability to learn and be open-minded
Ability to read, write, and speak Chinese an asset
