Navigation and Peer Support Coordinator

South Vancouver Neighbourhood House (SVNH) is on the unceded, ancestral, traditional, and stolen homelands of
the Coast Salish Nations, the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl ̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh
(Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. SVNH is a community-based organization that focuses on connecting people and
strengthening the neighbourhoods in South Vancouver. Neighbourhood houses provide healthy places to live, work
and play for residents of any age, from all walks of life. When you walk through the doors of SVNH, you find a
unique and vibrant place where people can build their social connections by participating in wellness or cultural
activities, or improve their personal capacity through volunteering, workshops, courses, and employment
counselling. The sense of belonging people develop at a neighbourhood house is enduring.
Role Description: The Seniors Navigation and Peer Support (NPS) Coordinator will collaborate with the Seniors’
Program Director and Seniors staff/volunteer team to provide leadership to the Navigation and Peer Support
program and other seniors’ programs. It will develop, implement, and evaluate programs and assist both non-
English and English-speaking seniors helping them to access financial, health, housing and transportation
information and referrals to other organizations when needed. Through individual and group capacity building it
will create opportunities for culturally diverse senior participants and volunteers to lead and support programs for
their peers. In consultation with team members, including volunteers, the coordinator will reach out into the
community to identify seniors who will benefit from support and connect them to these services.
The coordinator will co-coordinate the NPS program and support the work of the South Vancouver Seniors Hub
and Hub Council. The Hub strives to expand the scope of services and create new opportunities for racialized and
Canadian born seniors to fully participate in community life.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Diploma in Community Development or Social Services or combination of education and minimum of 2 years’
experience in community development and senior services
- Demonstrated experience & passion in collaborating with seniors
- Knowledge of seniors’ issues and how to engage seniors to age well
- Applied knowledge of community development principles, experience with anti-oppression frameworks and
strength-based approaches
- Experience in program/event planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Strong coordination, facilitation, problem solving and advocacy skills
- Experience managing volunteers and implementing volunteer management systems
- Ability to identify and deal with issues in a timely initiative-taking manner
- Good time management and organizational skills; and ability to work independently.
- Proven experience working collaboratively in a team environment
- Excellent inter-cultural communication and conflict resolution skills

- Ability to define tasks and milestones to achieve objectives, while ensuring the optimal use of resources to
meet those objectives
- Fluency in English and another language commonly spoken in South Vancouver (Mandarin, Cantonese, or
Punjabi) is highly preferred
- Experience in word processing, database, publishing, and Internet research
- Demonstrated ability to record, track and report data, as noted in the funding grant requirements.
- Knowledge of South Vancouver community and resources
- Class 5 Drivers license and First Aid certificate an asset
- Criminal record search required
Compensation: $26.68 per hour at 32 hours per week, Monday to Friday with occasional weekends when outreach
and community events are scheduled.
Start date: November 21, 2022
