The work schedule for this position is:

Duties

 

Basic function: Serves as a full-time political and economic Assistant at the U.S. Consulate General Vancouver. Acts as an advisor on political, economic, and energy issues, with a focus on local and regional commercial and political dynamics tied to Asia, with emphasis on the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Focuses on research, analysis, reporting, contact development, and event and visit management, leveraging Asia-related expertise and Chinese language skills. Advises USG officials on whom they should meet, their interlocutors views and importance and the best means of presenting USG positions to interlocutors. Reports directly to the Political and Economic Section (Pol/Econ) Officer and works collaboratively with the Pol/Econ Chief, the Pol/Econ specialist, and rotational Pol/Econ interns. Also supports and advises other sections of the Consulate General and officials of other agencies at Post.

 

 

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year of experience working on (or researching) issues related to political/economic matters in British Columbia and/or Yukon is required.

Education Requirements:

Completion of Bachelor’s degree in Business/Economics, Political Science, International Relations, History or Interdisciplinary Studies is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: Fluent (Level IV) Speaking/reading/writing in English is required. Good working knowledge (Level III) Speaking/reading/writing in Mandarin is required. This may be tested.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills. Excellent organizational and planning abilities are required. Must be able to work independently in carrying out assigned projects, including in potential teleworking settings. Must possess a minimum of Level I typing, proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite to include a good grasp of data manipulation, chart creation, and slide creation.

Agency Benefits:

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Canada may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
