T&T Supermarket Inc. was found in 1993 with two stores in BC. Since then, it has expanded rapidly to become Canada’s largest Asian supermarket chain with 27 stores across the country: 12 in Metro Vancouver, 6 in Alberta, and 9 in Ontario (7 in GTA and 1 in Ottawa, 1 in Waterloo).
The role:
Dual-reporting to the Manager, Prepared Foods – Kitchen Operations, and the Associate Director, Prepared Foods – Bakery, the Prepared Foods Operations Specialist in Alberta act as the key liaison to communicate between PFD – Kitchen and Bakery and stores in Alberta; identifies store operational issues and gaps related to Kitchen and Bakery Departments through pro-active store visits, initiates projects to improve Kitchen and Bakery Departments’ overall standards; develops and enforces the execution of Standard Operations Procedures (SOPs / Training Cards).
Major Responsibilities:
Identify store operational issues via store visits, tighten operational gaps by initiating process improvement projects to improve Kitchen and Bakery Departments’ overall standards
Provide Kitchen and Bakery Departments expertise advice on business process improvement projects
Act as the key contact person in providing feedback to PFD – Kitchen and Bakery, Store Operations and other relevant departments and stakeholders
Contribute in setting the department’s annual goals on improving efficiency, control cost of labor, supplies and shrinkage
Establish store department standards, provide department expertise advice, check and coach department employees in ensuring compliance and execution of the set standards
Establish operating system to simplify Kitchen and Bakery Departments’ operational processes, ensure system compliance, minimize departmental operating expenses and maximize overall department performance
Investigate and provide solutions to stores on items with high price check or frequent customer complaint or return
Work with relevant parties to investigate inventory discrepancies
Lead all Kitchen and Bakery Department Heads to achieve performance standards as outlined in the departmental work plan
Organize and facilitate meetings to discuss main issues, policies, procedures and proper follow up actions, resolve any questions or concerns related to Kitchen and Bakery Departments operations
Support Store Managers in monitoring Kitchen and Bakery Departments operations and workflow, evaluate overall performance of the department; identify and follow up on areas requiring improvement in sales and operational standards
Identify logistics problems and communicate with related parties in improving damages or spoilage during delivery
Build market awareness within department to understand the strengths and weaknesses against our competitors; create customer loyalty within the departments
Optimize talent pool, groom existing and/or new employees to grow with the company
Provide employee training and ongoing coaching, education and professional development to ensure staff are current with market trends and customer needs
Interview candidates, assist relevant DHs in managing employee performance and behavior
Create and maintain training cards; ensure all general staff receive proper training and supervision
Participate in the new store department setup or store re-layout & renovation projects
Perform simple trouble shoot on tools and equipment before involving vendors for on-site servicing
Perform any other duties as assigned by management
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements:
Completion of at least high school and above education
Previous Kitchen or Bakery Department Head experience required. Experiences in both areas preferred.
Must have at least 3 years of operations experience in a fast-paced retail environment
At least 1 year of management experience in handling Kitchen products e.g. Hot Food, BBQ, Sushi, Dim Sum etc or Bakery products g. Bread, Cake &/or other Pastries required. Experiences in both is preferred.
Experience in training and coaching is a definite asset
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) are an asset
Ability to treat people with respect using good inter-personal and communication skills
Ability to lift more than 40lbs and able to perform duties in cold and wet environment (i.e working in the cooler)
Ability to operate sharp tools and equipments using proper techniques and postures that complies to work safety requirements
Strong customer focus and a commitment to execute and enforce SOPs and to ensure standard compliance
Intermediate level of computer skills in using MS Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint
Ability to travel to stores located in the province of Alberta on a regular basis
