Within KPU, the Faculty of Arts has over 6000 full-time students and over 300 faculty members from across the Humanities and Social Sciences. The Faculty of Arts includes 19 departments and 21 programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Faculty is also home to two Canada Research Chairs: the first in Lifespan Cognition, and the second in South Asian Literary and Cultural Studies. Many of our programs offer opportunities for experiential education through practicums, co-ops, international field-schools and exchanges, service learning, community engagement, and research collaborations. POSITION OVERVIEW:

Instructor of PUNJABI

This posting provides opportunities for qualified candidates to be added to our qualified sessional faculty list, from which we select eligible instructors when contracts for individual courses become available. The successful applicants will teach various levels of the Punjabi language, and should be committed to providing KPU students with an excellent undergraduate educational experience.

The Language and Cultures Department is home to the BA Minor in Language and Culture at KPU and offers courses in Cree, French, Japanese, Mandarin, Punjabi, and Spanish language, in Linguistics, and in Language and Culture courses. We take great pride in our student-centered approach to learning, our emphasis on engagement and innovation, and our teaching-focused faculty. QUALIFICATIONS:

The preferred qualifications for the QFL position are a Ph.D. in Punjabi or related subject areas, including coursework and/or research in the language and culture; a proven record of relevant teaching and scholarship; and native or near-native fluency in the language. However, candidates with a Master’s degree and comparable academic experience may be considered. Experience with the use of multimedia and information technology in the classroom, as well as ability to teach related culture courses in English, will be considered an asset. The successful applicant will be asked to take teaching assignments in fall, spring, and May and June summer semesters, day and/or evening, at our Surrey and Richmond campuses or in online or blended teaching modes.

A complete application includes a cover letter; current curriculum vitae; a statement on teaching philosophy; samples of research/publications; copies of transcripts of graduate degrees; teaching evaluations; and the names of three referees able to comment on your teaching ability and academic accomplishments. Syllabi from previous courses taught are strongly encouraged.
