Seniors Community Outreach Specialist

South Vancouver Neighbourhood House (SVNH) is on the unceded, occupied, ancestral, traditional, and stolen
homelands of the Coast Salish Nations, the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú 7mesh (Squamish), and Səl �í
lwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
South Vancouver Neighbourhood House is looking for a Seniors Community Outreach Specialist for our Seniors
team. This is a part-time position at 14 hours per week. The Seniors Community Outreach Specialist will be
responsible for assisting with the development and delivery of the Safer Together: Emergency Preparedness
Project. Safer Together is an innovative outreach emergency preparedness project that brings information to
seniors’ residential buildings to inform higher-needs older adults about a range of weather advisories and
emergencies. Safer Together connects individuals to programs and services by breaking down barriers to access
such as transportation and language. The Seniors Community Outreach Specialist will also provide support for the
Information and Referrals program both on- and off-site. In person supports will be provided to English and non-
English speaking, racialized and newcomer seniors. Assistance includes form filling, applying for government
benefits and connecting older adults to community services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement outreach strategies to identify opportunities to connect with highly vulnerable,
non-English speaking, racialized seniors;
- Reach out to low-income and subsidized seniors housing managers to build partnership opportunities for
outreach;
- Assist with the planning, organizing, delivering and evaluating the Safer Together project in accordance
with the goals and outcomes provided by the funder;
- Work collaboratively with local organizations, emergency services agencies, community groups, volunteers
and partners to ensure the Safer Together Project builds on local assets and responds effectively to
community needs;
- Assist with monitoring and reporting on project goals/outcomes, including collecting statistics and
contributing to databases;
- Build relationships and maintain communication with project stakeholders, community partners, health
partners and service providers;
- Support program promotion and registration;
- Connect seniors to emergency preparedness information, resources and other services as required;
- Assist to facilitate workshops and lead community dialogues to broaden our understanding of the needs
- Write program reports, collect statistics, and maintain program-related documentation:
- To be aware of community needs, gaps, trends and to share this information at team meetings and
advocate as needed.

- Identify and provide leadership in community development to build the capacity of non-English speaking
seniors to engage in grassroot efforts of social networking and organizing.
- Diploma in Community Development or Social Services or combination of education and minimum of 2
- Knowledge of community development principles, experience with anti-oppression frameworks and
- Experience developing and implementing outreach strategies for individuals from diverse racial, ethnic,
- Experience working with highly vulnerable, non-English speaking racialized seniors
- Proven experience working collaboratively in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve common goals and positive results
- Fluency in English is required
- Fluency in another language commonly spoken in South Vancouver (Mandarin and/or Cantonese,) is
- Knowledge of South Vancouver area is desired
- Class 5 Drivers License an asset
- Criminal record search required
Compensation: Band 7; $22.90-25.38 p/hour based on qualifications, 14 hours per week + 6% vacation pay in lieu
of vacation
