We are looking for a Superintendent Mine Planning to lead several teams of engineers to the develop the LOM and medium range mine planning forecasts as well as fit for purpose services and mine design release to support those forecasts. This role is a great opportunity to hone your leadership skills while focusing on integration between mine designs, plans, and schedules.
Working 4 weeks on and 2 weeks off international FIFO roster or residential in Ulaanbaatar and FIFO to site Monday to Friday and reporting to the Manager Mine Technical Services, you will:
- Lead the mining engineering team that develops the Long, Medium and Short Term mine forecasts for UG operations
- Collaborate within internal Technical Services team plus other teams including Mine Coordination, Underground Construction and Mining teams to ensure successful delivery of mining plan
- Lead a design team for effective and timely delivery of approved mine design
- Building systems and processes that simplify the mine planning process to deliver mine plans that are accurate
- Communicate about and managing significant risks associated with the development and implementation of the mine plan including geotechnical plan
- Co-operate with offsite teams for transition or responsibilities to site teams
- Execute effective stakeholder management skills to ensure mine planning parameters are accurate with inputs from the various stakeholders on site
What you will bring
- Degree in Mining Engineering or other relevant disciplines
- 5+ years of progressive mine engineering/ operations/ planning experience
- Deswik mine planning software experience is required
- Ability to work in cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure mine plans are integrated across ore body knowledge and the business
- Prior leadership experience of technical teams
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities and timeframes of work
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Preferably in block cave mining environments
- Experience in multiple mines
- Experience in large scale multibillion-dollar projects, preferably in remote site
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills along with computer literacy including exposure to Microsoft Word and Excel
- Commercial acumen to build mine plan that optimise system value

Where you’ll be working
Oyu Tolgoi is an operating Copper / Gold open pit mine with a brownfields underground mining project. The site is located in the Gobi Desert region of Mongolia. The reserves case for the underground project is in the order of 0.5 billion tonnes of ore to be mined from the 95,000 tonnes per day Hugo North Lift 1 (HNL1) panel cave mine with a 20-year operations life. There is also the potential for 3 further block cave districts to increase mine life beyond 100 years.
